July 22nd was a beautiful day in Paris, cool in the morning and warm to hot in the afternoon, but without the mugginess that all too often characterizes the city in summer. As I had to be in Malakoff (a southern suburb just outside the city) at 9:30 am, I took an early train and walked the 8 km from the Gare de Lyon. I then walked another 7 km after my first meeting from Malakoff to the Opera for a 2 pm working meeting with a film director. And then back to the station after the meeting, making a total of 21 km in all.
This has always been my favourite time of the year in Paris, when most of the inhabitants are away, and this long walk allowed me to return to places I love: the Jardin des Plantes, the 6th arrondissement, the Tuileries Gardens, the covered passages, the Palais Royal and the Marais. A great day combining business with pleasure.
